Payment options
Guangzhou metro and buses offer convenient payment options for international travelers. Passengers can use contactless international bank cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, Diners Club and Discover) directly at supported metro gates, or pay using WeChat Pay or Alipay linked to an overseas bank card. Cash (RMB) is also accepted when purchasing tickets at vending machines.
Mobile payment (WeChat Pay / Alipay)
International visitors can use WeChat Pay or Alipay by registering with a passport, a mobile phone number that can receive SMS verification, and a compatible international bank card. No Chinese bank account is required. Once activated, QR codes can be used to enter metro stations and buses.
Tickets and day passes
Single-journey metro tickets can be purchased at ticket vending machines using cash or mobile payment. Guangzhou Metro also offers:
- 1-day pass: RMB 20 (unlimited rides within 24 hours)
- 3-day pass: RMB 50 (unlimited rides within 72 hours)
Each pass is valid for one person and can be purchased at selected metro service centers.
Yang Cheng Tong transportation card
The Yang Cheng Tong card can be purchased at metro service centers, convenience stores and station kiosks. It can be used on metro, buses and ferries, and recharged at metro stations, convenience stores or via supported mobile apps.
